Son of Man

NONE BUT JESUS
Song by Hillsong UNITED

[Verse 1]
In the quiet, in the stillness
I know that You are God
In the secret of Your Presence
I know there I am restored
[Pre-Chorus]
When You call I won't refuse
Each new day, again I'll choose
[Chorus]
There is no one else for me
None but Jesus
Crucified to set me free
Now I live to bring Him praise
[Verse 2]
In the chaos, in confusion
I know You're sovereign still
In the moment of my weakness
You give me grace to do Your Will
[Pre-Chorus]
So, when You call I won't delay
This my song through all my days

[Chorus]
There is no one else for me
None but Jesus
Crucified to set me free
Now I live to bring Him praise
There is no one else for me
None but Jesus
Crucified to set me free
Now I live to bring Him praise
[Bridge]
All my delight is in You, Lord
All of my hope, all of my strength
All my delight is in You, Lord
Forevermore
All my delight is in You, Lord
All of my hope, all of my strength
All my delight is in You, Lord
Forevermore
[Chorus]
There is no one else for me
None but Jesus
Crucified to set me free
Now I live to bring Him praise

Exalt: “None But Jesus”
Empower: Matthew 24:1-14 [Read Matthew 21, 22 and 23)

The Coming of the Son of Man (Part 1)
24:3b ASND)
Napakahalaga na maunawaan na ang mga alagad (Peter, James, John and Andrew – Mark 13:3) ay nagtanong dahil sa sinabi ni Hesus sa Mateo 24:2 na “magigiba ang lahat ng iyan (referring to the temple) at walang maiiwang magkapatong na bato” (a complete destruction). Ang kanilang tanong (a unified question) ay hindi tungkol sa katapusan ng pisikal na mundo (Gk. cosmos), kundi tungkol sa kanilang napakakagandang templo na sentro ng kanilang buhay [i.e. Jewish identity; national pride; the heart and symbol of Israel’s religious, political and economic life.]

Bilang tugon sa tanong ng mga alagad, nagbigay ng mga tanda si Hesus sa Mateo 24:3-14: false christs, wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes and famines; tribulations/ persecutions, apostasy, false prophets, lawlessness, preaching of the gospel in all the world (Gk. ‘oikoumene’– referring to the inhabitants of the Roman world/empire). Assuredly, I say to you, THIS GENERATION will by no means pass away till ALL these things take place. (Matt. 24:34) All took place in their lifetime; not at the end of history or ‘yet-future’ event.

I. Historical Context: Jesus and the Temple

The temple was exploited by the religious leaders and disrupted its sanctity (sacredness) through commercial activities. Jesus exposed the hypocrisy, corruption and false security of the religious system centered in the temple.

II. The Covenantal Context: Covenant Breaking --> Judgment

III. The Linguistic Context
COMING – Gk. ‘PAROUSIA’- presence, appearing; it refers to HIS COMING IN JUDGEMENT (cf. Isaiah 19:1; Micah 1:3-4); not visible/physical coming, but a spiritual and covenantal one.
AGE (Gk. “AION”) – refers to a redemptive-historical period (Jewish Age); end of the OLD COVENANT AGE (the Mosaic system: rituals, priestly mediation, temple sacrifices)

Jesus’ prophetic ministry was primarily for the people alive in His day, the people to whom he was sent, not to 21st century people.

Elevate: Application/Questions:
