John 10:10 - The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have LIFE, and that they may have it MORE ABUNDANTLY. (NKJV)
The sheep = God’s people (Israel)
The thieves and robbers = false religious leaders of Israel who rejected Christ and misled the people (not directly to Satan)
The abundant life = the divine life that Jesus gives through His saving work.
Sa konteksto ng talata sa itaas, ang magnanakaw ay direktang tumutukoy sa mga huwad na pastol o mga religious leaders (i.e. Pharisees) na nagsamantala at nagligaw sa bayan ng Diyos (Israel). Sila ang mga magnanakaw (thief) o tulisan na nag-aangking sila ang tunay na mga tagapagturo ng Diyos, ngunit tinanggihan si Hesus na anak ng Diyos. Sila ang nagpabigat sa mga tao sa pamamagitan ng legalismo (pilit na pagsunod sa Kautusan upang maging karapatdapat o maging matuwid sa Diyos). Sila ang nag-akay sa Israel palayo sa Diyos (imbes na ilapit sila sa Kanya), sa pamamagitan ng maling katuruan (teachings contrary to the nature and character of God), kaya nagdulot ito ng kapahamakan sa kanila.
[Note: Though the word “thief” in John 10:10 refers directly to false shepherds or religious leaders, not to Satan; it is not wrong to say that behind their (religious leaders) rejection and opposition to Christ (at that time) was the deception or influence of the enemy (Satan)].
“I have come that they may have LIFE...”- Ang buhay (Gk. “zoe”) ay tumutukoy sa buhay ng Diyos na nakaugat sa pakikipag-isa kay Cristo. Ito ang buhay na walang hanggan (eternal life), at kalikasang ibinahagi Niya (divine life) sa bawat nanampalataya (born again believers). Dahil ang buhay na ipinagkaloob ng Diyos ay mismong buhay Niya, ito’y ganap, kompleto, lubos at umaapaw. What a life we have in Jesus!
“...and that they may have it MORE ABUNDANTLY.” Abundant life is not primarily about having more things (e.g. money, material wealth or possession, worldly success); it is about having Christ’s life, and growing in the knowledge and expression of that life in every area of our lives. Maaaring mayaman ang isang tao (unbeliever) ngunit wala ang buhay ni Cristo. Maaari ding makaranas ng kahirapan ang isang mananampalataya ngunit namumuhay pa rin sa kasaganaan ng buhay na ibinigay ni Cristo. Ang masaganang buhay ay hindi ang pagkakaroon ng maraming ari-arian, kundi ang pagkakaroon ng buhay na nakaugnay kay Cristo sa pamamagitan ng presensya (indwelling presence) ng Banal na Espiritu- “ Sapagkat sinasabi sa Kasulatan na dadaloy ang tubig na nagbibigay-buhay (referring to the Holy Spirit) mula sa puso ng sumasampalataya sa akin.(Juan 7:38 ASND)” Only Christ could satisfy the deepest thirst and hunger of men!
