MAHALAGANG PAALALA: Huwag ibigin ang sanlibutan (world) at ang mga bagay dito sa sanlibutan. Malinaw na inilarawan ni Juan sa kanyang sulat kung ano ang nasa sanlibutan (o sistema ng mundo): ang pagnanasa ng laman (lust of the flesh), ang pagnanasa ng mata (lust of the eyes) at ang pagmamalaki sa buhay (pride of life). Unawain na ang sistema o mga kaisipan/pamamaraan ng mundo (including its principles, philosophies and ideologies) ay nakasalig o nakabatay (based) sa tatlong ito; it is clear then that the world system is definitely against God’s system.
From the time of Adam and Eve up to present, sa tatlong larangang ito: lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life, tinutukso o ini-impluensiyahan ng diablo ang tao (through the world system) upang siya ay ma-focus sa kanyang sarili at lumayo sa Diyos. Ating isa-isahin ang tatlo:
Lust of the flesh. “Sa palagay niya’y masarap ang bunga nito…” Nanaig ang pagnasasa ng laman dahil mas naniwala sina Adan at Eba sa sinabi ng ahas (Satan) kaysa sa sinabi ng Diyos. Sa mundong ito, masasabi natin na tatlo ang kaaway ng mga mananampalataya: ang mundo (the world), ang laman (the flesh) at si Satanas (the devil). Tandaan, hindi mga tao ang kaaway natin; people are to be loved. Ang pita o pagnanasa ng laman (refer to Galatians 2:19-21) ay taliwas sa gusto ng espiritu. The spirit is always willing but the flesh is sometimes weak. Kaya napakahalaga na mabuhay tayo sa espiritu (who we are in the spirit).
Pride of Life. Nabuo sa kaisipan nila na may kulang pa sa kanila; nahulog sila sa magandang pananalita ni Satanas at sa idudulot sa kanila kung kakainin nila ang bunga: “Kayo'y magiging parang Diyos at malalaman ninyo ang mabuti at masama.” Maraming pangako ang mundo na katulad nito at may mga nahihikayat dahil sa paghahangad na malampasan ang iba; ito’y malinaw na pagmamalaki o pagmamataas. Men who live according to the world system are arrogant and boastful; they are longing for recognition, applause, and status.
One who chooses to live independent of God lives in accordance with the world system that sways/lures him to follow his fleshly desires and rely on his own wisdom and ability. Sinasabi ng mundo, “Gawin mo kung ano ang nagpapasaya sa iyo”; “Believe in yourself” (spirit of self-sufficiency). Ang pagtitiwala sa sarili, hindi sa Diyos, ang dahilan kung bakit ang tao ay nagmamalaki sa kanyang tagumpay (success) o mga accomplishments sa buhay, hence, the pride of life. [Note: Nothing is wrong with believing in yourself if it is a clear reflection of who you are in Christ.]
Remember, si Hesus ay tinukso rin ng Diablo sa tatlong larangan(areas) sa itaas ngunit hindi siya natukso. Gayundin naman, kaya rin nating hindi matukso. Tayo na mga anak ng Diyos ay mga bagong nilalang na; mayroon na tayo ngayong bagong espiritu na may kapangyarihan (authority) upang malabanan ang mga gawa ng laman kung tayo ay lalakad kung sino tayo kay Cristo (or who we are in the spirit).
